Platform Change for Maitreya Store - Yes or No

We’re considering moving our main store at maitreyastore.com to Shopify, while keeping our products also available on Gumroad.

We want to make this decision based on your feedback and what’s most convenient for you — your opinion truly matters and will help us choose the best direction moving forward.

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Why are we considering this change?
The platforms we currently use — this one and Gumroad — have made very few updates over the past five years. Unfortunately, they have not improved the customer experience, nor created better conditions for sellers and buyers. We want to ensure that your shopping experience is smooth, enjoyable, and modern, which is why we’re exploring Shopify as a potential new home for our store.

1. If we moved our main store to Shopify (while keeping Gumroad as an option), how would you feel?

  • :white_check_mark: I’d be happy with that change.
  • I’m not sure — I’d like more information first.
  • :cross_mark: I’d prefer everything to stay as it is now.

An example of this lack of development is:

  • Until recently, they didn’t even have a method for paying by card. We integrated Stripe ourselves, which was initially blocked.
  • They don’t have Klarna or other payment methods you’ve asked about — the ones that allow products to be purchased in small installments.
  • They don’t have visible product reviews, and we’re sure you’d want to see those when buying products.
  • They don’t have well-structured categories, which makes it difficult to find products.
There are probably many other issues, but these are the ones that come to mind right now.

Would we be able to access our previous purchases on the new platform? If not, is there a workaround - preserving receipts or order history?

We’ll have a plugin that connects the data from the old website to the new one and automatically sends a new download link to your email.
All your previously purchased files will also be available in your account on the new platform.

During the transfer, it’s possible that not everything will migrate perfectly — some files might be missing or need to be restored manually. That’s absolutely not a problem for us — we’ll make sure to manually add or restore anything that’s missing in your account so you don’t lose access to any of your purchases.

If we can provide email receipts/proof of purchases from Maitreya store, can you transfer the files into our Gumroad library? That way we can have access to them if we need

Yes, that’s also possible — you’ll be able to have them available on both platforms.

Gumroad has given me difficulties since someone hacked my account. I lost many Mandalas, and every time I tried to get Gumroad to help me, by giving them my account number, I lost even more.
And they claim that it is not there is purchased, but I have email.
Maybe it would not have done so much, but now that there are audios for all the old ones it is sad. Most recently in the weeks since, when art of communication, Adrenal Control, fearlessness state and other Mandalas that I previously bought through Gumroad are no longer available on the App, so I can not enjoy the audios
Can not blame Maitreya or Polaris they have always been friendly and tried to help.
But there are so many mandalas so you don’t want to bother them, I
still buy from but am a little skeptical about their service

@anon72404465, please make sure that all mandalas that have a @tick25 are added to his library in Gumroad on Monday when you’re back at work.

@tick25 — please send us a list of the items you’re missing, and we’ll fix everything for you. You can write us privately in the forum or by email.

Gumroad also annoys me — especially with that bug they had involving their AI system that was stealing people’s accounts. They’ve really gone too far, and it’s made me quite frustrated.

The only reason we’re still putting up with them is because many of our customers have files worth thousands of dollars there, and we don’t want to cause them any stress. Otherwise, for more than a year now, they’ve been taking over 15%, which is absolutely ridiculous for any platform… but for now, we’re tolerating it out of respect for the people who’ve invested in us and who still enjoy using Gumroad.

Gumroad used to have pretty good support, but over the past few months they’ve had several issues that don’t work in their favor — including slow support, if anyone even replies at all. These days, it’s usually just AI responding.

Thank you @Maitreya, i will try to make that, i think the fastest way, is for me. Is to take photos of my folder. so you can see all the mandalas with pictures and text

Shopify sounds great!

The Maitreyastore needs some serious upgrades.

For User Friendliness and also the design.:slightly_smiling_face:

I don’t mind the change and agree with all the advantages of making this move. However:

  1. I’ve had (and still have) a bad experience with Gumroad. We tried to resolve it together some time ago, but unfortunately, it’s still not fixed. I recently tried placing an order using my primary email address and got the same known error again when attempting to purchase the “Justice Environmental” field.
  2. Around 95% of all my orders were made through the Maitreya Store. I just want to make sure that all my items (a few hundred) will be available to me on Shopify as well.

I’m really sorry about this — we tried several times to contact Gumroad and the payment processor, but they wouldn’t give us any information, saying it’s between you and them and that they can’t share personal data (due to European privacy laws). They also didn’t allow us to make any changes. :frowning:

We’ll look into how to transfer everything to a new website in a way that you won’t even feel the transition. This will probably happen sometime after the New Year, but we’ll see — it could be earlier if we make a decision and find a good company to handle the migration for us.

Yes, definitely. If such a migration turns out to be impossible — though I honestly doubt that — we’ll drop the idea. But if it is possible, then maybe it’s time to take action and make the change.

Thank you all for sharing your opinions, and please feel free to post any ideas or things you’d like to see — we’ll organize everything to make it as convenient and beneficial for you as possible.

Honestly speaking I make purchases from all of your platforms. I do not like Gumroad as they charge taxes especially from your store not from other Gumroad sellers. I have hard time accessing old contents as well from Gumroad. I have backed up all of the products I have purchased into my google account.

Hmm, Gumroad generally collects taxes from Europe — but it shouldn’t be doing that in other regions.

It is collecting from US

@Maitreya I just want two things:

  1. Not to lose my purchases. Keep my collections on the new platform.

  2. Use PayPal as a payment method.

Thanks.

Maybe it makes sense to create a store on Patreon? Or is there something inconvenient there as well? The most important thing is that the store should offer different payment options.

Switching to Shopify is a strategic decision that will benefit your business in the long run

And you shouldn’t ignore it

If you can’t move all clients’ orders to Shopify, there’s a way to keep customers’ access to their purchases

You can create a subdomain on your server for people who have already bought from your store.

Here’s how it will be working:
maitreyastore.com - new shop on Shopify.
old.maitreyastore.com - the subdomain which holds the old store.

On the new store, there would be a button that lets customers go to the old store (just database) and download their previous purchases.

However, they won’t be able to make new purchases on the old store. For new purchases, they would use the new store.
