Can shields and Protections hinder results?

So you use any shields, together Witherspoon your Mandalays, when I try to cut down to a few I get attacked? I have to use almost all Maitreyas shields and protections. And then it stops, I wish I could only use one or two fields. I Wonder if shields and Protections mandalas , hinder some of the rresults from my main mandalas?
