When “Choose Love, Not Fear” Is Spiritually Misleading: Boundaries, Instinct, and the Right to Say No

“Choose love, not fear.”
It’s a phrase that floats through spiritual spaces like incense. Soft, comforting, idealistic. It suggests that love is the higher choice — that fear is always the lower one. That if you want to live an awakened life, you must reject fear, dissolve resistance, and open your heart no matter what.

But as beautiful as it sounds, this message can become dangerously reductive.

Because sometimes, what we label as “fear” is actually instinct .
And sometimes, the most loving act is not openness — but self-protection.

I had that moment where I thought I should always respond with love instead of f… off. And this is how I am going to change the world that needs more love. I think everyone at some stage wants to do that. No?
