Welcome to the forum Tony. Here’s the universal rule - the only thing that requires headphones exclusively are binaural beats, which is a very old technology that is rarely used anymore…or at least it should be used rarely.
For all types of energetically programmed & morphic field audios from all creators, speakers work better as it allows the energy work to interact with your entire auric field, which you can think of it as better absorption. But headphones will still work quite well, so if that’s either all you have, or your preference due to your environment, use them and know that they will still be quite effective.

They don’t need to be visible, but they must be close to you — no more than 30 cm away — for them to work.
